Cloud Developer / Cloud Engineer

Valerio
Di Zio
.

I’m Valerio, a cloud developer. I design and build solutions on Google Cloud based on the needs of the people who will use them, whatever those needs may be. I write code mainly in Python, but not exclusively: I choose the language and tools that best suit each project. I enjoy working closely with clients because, before deciding how to build something, I want to understand what is really needed.

In 2025 I earned my MSc in Computer Science and Engineering, graduating with honours from the University of Bologna (Cesena campus). My thesis was on fairness in machine learning, that is, how to make the results of models more equitable. I continue to take a particular interest in cloud architecture and artificial intelligence.

Outside work, I enjoy cooking, 3D printing, playing video games and collecting. I try to stay active and always make time for friends.

Cloud Developer / IT Consultant

  • I create Google Cloud solutions based on clients’ needs, whatever they may be: from gathering requirements to evaluating POCs and architecture choices, through to development.
  • I develop services for serverless applications, data processing and cloud integrations, mainly in Python and FastAPI but also in Go and other languages, depending on what each project requires.
  • I also contribute to CI/CD, IAM, monitoring, logging, troubleshooting and technical support.

SER.IN.AR

IT Trainer

I delivered four courses to very different groups: basic Excel for school staff, LEGO Mindstorms robotics for a middle school class, and Snap! programming for two primary school classes. It taught me to explain technology to people starting from zero.

Visup

Frontend Developer

I developed the Angular frontend of an Industry 4.0 data visualisation dashboard, working in an Agile team with Git and CI/CD.

MSc thesis

FairLib

Fairness in machine learning

For my MSc thesis I worked on a Python library that helps reduce bias in machine learning models, using fairness techniques in pre-processing and in-processing. My contribution was integrating and improving the existing implementation.

The library was used in the European AEQUITAS project, and my name appears among the contributors of one of the project’s research datasets on Zenodo.

PositionPal

User service

In a group project, I took care of the microservice that handles user registration and profiles: hexagonal architecture, automated tests and a contribution to the CI/CD pipeline.

NesGen

Generative music

An experiment in teaching a model to compose NES-style music, the sound of old-school video games. I explored Transformer and GAN approaches on the NES-MDB dataset, with MIDI tokenization and fine-tuning.

Scooby

Web crawler

A web crawler and scraper written in Scala 3, with an internal DSL to describe navigation, extraction and export. Concurrent execution is handled with Akka Typed.
